The Inca Trail to Machu Picchu is the most famous hiking trail in the world. The trail today still follows the exact route taken by the Ancient Incans hundreds of years ago as they made their pilgrimage to the Sacred City. Winding for 26 miles through some of the most spectacular mountain landscape in Peru, thousands of intrepid explorers make their own pilgrimage each year, arriving at the magnificent Sun Gate and the iconic views of this new Wonder of the World.
In order to protect this historic path for future generations, only a limited number of permits are released to hike the trail each year. Not surprisingly, permits are sold out many months in advance and so without proper forward planning, many visitors arriving in Peru are left disappointed at being unable to join a trek.
At Adventure Peru Path we want to ensure as many of our customers as possible have the opportunity to hike this iconic trail with us, and so we are already taking bookings for the 2019 season. By making a small deposit and providing some personal details to us, we will be able to request your permit well ahead of time to maximize the chance of securing your place on the trail.
Hiking the Inca Trail is truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The well-trodden path climbs to the top of spectacular mountain passes where hikers are rewarded with breathtaking views across the magnificent snow-capped Andes; it passes the most beautifully preserved Inca ruins (where our experienced guides will provide a fascinating tour); it meanders through remote mountain villages where new generations of the indigenous population continue to farm the land; and we share our path with the wild Alpacas and Vicuñas and other fauna that roams freely in the area.
On this multi-day trek, we camp at the most beautiful, remote spots. Miles from the bright lights of Cusco we will see the most majestic display of stars and constellations across the South American sky. Our team of porters ensure you are comfortable at all times, using only the highest quality camping equipment, and our kitchen team will astound you with their gourmet mountainside cooking.
But of course, the jewel in the crown of this tour is our arrival at the lost city through the Gate of the Sun for your first views of the 7th wonder that is Machu Picchu. We guarantee this is a memory that will stay with you for a lifetime.
So, if you’re considering taking the Inca Trail in 2019, don’t risk leaving it until the last minute to book. Just complete our booking form, and we will take care of all of the arrangements for you.
Without some sort of control in place, the increasing popularity of the trail would draw more and more visitors every year. Recognizing the need to maintain the trail for future generations, the Peruvian Tourism Board introduced a permit system that now allows a maximum of 500 people to hike the trail each day. This daily limit includes all of the porters, cooks, and guides who support the tour groups, leaving just 200 permits available for tourists.
Once purchased, permits are non-refundable and non-transferable between travelers, meaning that once permits are sold out for a specific date there is no way to get new permits for this date.
For this reason, it is highly recommended to secure your permit early. APP are privileged to be one of the only tour companies in the area able to secure permits before their general release to the public.
*IMPORTANTIf your passport number changes between reserving your Inca Trail permit and the start of your trek (e.g. dueto renewal) you must send us a photocopy of the new passport information as soon as you have it so we can update your permit. You must also bring both your old and new passports with you on the trek.
If you arrive in Cusco and did not advise us that you have a new passport number, and that your information has changed, you will not be permitted to enter Machu Picchu and Adventure Peru Path will not be held responsible. In this situation it will be the responsibility of the customer to pay the extra expense of returning to Cusco or Machu Picchu (transportation, food and other expenses).
