Explore the famous ancient citadel of Machu Picchu in only one day by our one day Machu Picchu tour by train. We first begin in the beautiful Ollantaytambo, surrounded by ruins atop the mountains and take the train from to Aguas Calientes. The train follows the Urubamba River all the way through cloud forest that surrounds Machu Picchu.
You will travel two hours on a scenic train ride traversing through the high Andes, cloud forest, and towering mountains until you reach Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu town).
Upon arrival to Aguas Calientes you will take a 25 minute bus ride up to Machu Picchu where you will enjoy a 2 and a half hour extensive tour by our expert guide. This is a perfect option to get the full experience of Machu Picchu and learn of Inca history in just one day!
Our guide will provide you with a pre-trek briefing at your hotel 1 or 2 days before we depart. Whilst we always aim to provide as much information as possible, this also gives you the opportunity to ask questions about the trek, your crew or the areas we’ll be visiting.
We will begin early and you will be picked up from Cusco at 3 AM to travel down the mountains to the Sacred Valley of the Incas into Ollantaytambo. Here you will board the train and enjoy a comfortable and scenic ride for 2 hours following the Urubamba river until reaching Aguas Calientes. The beautiful train ride will take you through cloud forest to high jungle, an experience in of itself.
When we arrive to Aguas Caliente you will head straight up the mountain to the ancient citadel of Machu Picchu. You will be given a 2 and a half hour guided tour of this marvelous Inca city. Throughout the tour you will learn of the history and culture of the Inca, all while visiting the majestic sun temple, Intihuatana (sundial), the temple of the three windows, temple of the condor, and much more! You will learn of the fascinating and mysterious ways in which this city was constructed hundreds of years ago.
After your tour you will have free time to explore the ruins on your own or if you have elected climb Huayna Picchu mountain (the Young Mountain). Huayna Picchu has an incredible view looking down on Machu Picchu city and the perfect photo opportunities!
In the afternoon you will take the bus back down to Aguas Calientes where you will board the train and return to Poroy or Ollantaytambo train station. From the station, a representative will be waiting with a private van to take you back to your hotel in Cusco. Estimated arrival time in Cusco is 19:45.
